Pep Guardiola says Manchester City will keep fighting for all trophies until season ends
Pep Guardiola has said his team will keep competing for every available trophy this season despite a difficult schedule and a significant first-leg setback in Europe.
Manchester City are still close to the Premier League leaders Arsenal, have progressed to the Carabao Cup final and the FA Cup quarter-finals, and also face a tough challenge in overturning a 0–3 first-leg defeat against Real Madrid in their upcoming return leg.
Speaking ahead of Saturday’s league match against West Ham United at the London Stadium, Guardiola explained that his attention remains on approaching each match individually during what he described as a crucial period of the season.
“When you have won a lot of titles, every game is important,” he said during his Friday press conference obtained from the club’s website.
“We have been struggling for many months for the Premier League, and we will not give up fighting until the end.
“We cannot play the same eleven every three days, but I’m not thinking about Madrid.
“It would not be possible to win all the Premier League titles we have if we were not thinking about every single game.
“The day after Madrid when I woke up was Nuno, West Ham and what we have to do.
“Tomorrow we have an important game for our Premier League position and then the second leg on Tuesday.
“We are used to living these situations for many years and it’s a pleasure to be here because last season we could not live on that stage so it’s nice,” he stated.
City will face a busy run of fixtures over the next eight days, beginning with the trip to West Ham, followed by the second leg against Real Madrid and then a clash with Arsenal in the Carabao Cup final.
Guardiola said he anticipates a challenging encounter against a West Ham side led by Nuno Espírito Santo, who are currently battling to secure their status in the Premier League.
“With Nottingham Forest before. I always said when we arrive in the last 10 games, every team plays for something.
“For relegation for Champions League. Now there’s no second chances.
“Now it’s West Ham. Then we will think about [Madrid].
After the game we will see the plans we have. Play the game we have to play and then it will dictate if we have a chance or not.
“We’ll see on Tuesday. Now it’s West Ham and I always believe the Premier League is the most difficult one and still we are there.
“We are desperate [to win] too.”
