Former Big Brother Naija star and two-time Nigerian high jump champion, Mike Edwards, has achieved a victory in his debut professional boxing match against Jake Cornish.

The bout, held at the Dublin Arena on Saturday, went the full distance, with Edwards securing the win by unanimous decision from the judges.

Edwards, who surprised many by transitioning from athletics to professional boxing in April, competed in the Misfits Boxing Cruiserweight division. This division is organized by English social media personality and Nigerian-born professional boxer, Olajide Williams, also known as KSI.

In a post on X.com on Saturday, Misfits Boxing wrote, “An impressive MFB debut for #aireyys as he gets the decision victory. Mike Edwards gets his first #MisfitsBoxing win.”

In April, reports state that Edwards reaffirmed his decision to join the cruiserweight division of Misfits Boxing, marking a significant shift from his background in track and field.

He said, “Breaking News: Excited to announce my entry into the world of professional boxing! Thrilled to join the Cruiserweight division roster on #MisfitsBoxing. Get ready for an electrifying debut as I step into the ring to showcase my skills and determination.”
