Pochettino fines himself for referee’s rant after punishing Jackson
Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino will experience his own medicine by being suspended from the touchline after accumulating three yellow cards this season.
Upon assuming the role of Chelsea boss at the beginning of the new season, Pochettino emphasized the importance of clarity in his ideas and the necessity for discipline, especially following a tumultuous campaign in the previous season.
He has implemented an open-door policy, welcoming all players while simultaneously taking a firm stance against both on and off-pitch indiscipline to foster unity within the team.
According to reports, winger Noni Madueke was the initial example, facing consequences after being captured partying at a nightclub despite being injured. As a result, he was excluded from the subsequent game and has since seen limited playing time.
Pochettino fines himself for suspension
Pochettino approached Anthony Taylor in frustration after the thrilling 4-4 draw against Manchester City, as Taylor blew the final whistle while Chelsea was on a counterattack.
This resulted in Pochettino receiving a yellow card, marking his third of the season and leading to his suspension for the upcoming match against Newcastle United. The Argentine manager, acknowledging his own suspension, has imposed a self-disciplinary action.
“[Jackson] had to run [for his punishment], and I am going to pay for a dinner because I got suspended and I cannot run, so I prefer to pay,” he said.
Senegalese striker Nicolas Jackson accumulated five yellow cards, receiving his fifth against Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge. Consequently, he will be unavailable for the upcoming match against Fulham at Craven Cottage.
For the crucial tie at St. James Park, Poch’s assistant, Jose Perez, will be on the sidelines as the Blues seek to advance up the Premier League table.
