PPP: Sports minister woos Dangote to invest in sport
Billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote has shown interest in investing and driving entrepreneurship through sports in Nigeria.
Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare, made this known after meeting with Dangote on Wednesday.
Dare said his meeting with Dangote was one of his plans to boost sports development in the country through a public-private partnership.
He explained that the Federal Government was dedicated to creating jobs and encouraging entrepreneurship through sports.
Apart from Dangote, the sports minister also said Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has also backed his PPP agenda.
Dare had during a visitation to National Stadium in Lagos said his PPP strategy would help salvage sports facilities across the country from their dilapidated state and ensure proper maintenance.
“Sport is a business. (This is) the first step in engineering PPP in sports development in Nigeria,” he tweeted.
“Dangote is a convert as he listens to my pitch. I am about the business of sports to engage our youth for employment and entrepreneurship through sports development. We have set out. Fashola on board.”
Respondents to the minister’s post urged him to consider wooing other prominent Nigerians into investing in sports.
