The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have reached out to the Prince and Princess of Wales following the announcement of Catherine’s cancer diagnosis, the BBC understands.
Kensington Palace has refrained from making any public comments, although it is understood that the communication regarding the matter occurred privately.
Previously, Prince Harry and Meghan expressed their hopes for “health and healing” for Catherine, advocating for her and her family to undergo the healing process “privately and in peace.”
Catherine acknowledged on Friday that the news came as a “huge shock.”
In a brief video message, she disclosed that the past few months had been exceptionally challenging but reassured that she was “well” and making progress every day.
The specifics of the cancer diagnosis have not been disclosed, but Kensington Palace has assured that the princess is optimistic about making a complete recovery.
While Catherine underwent abdominal surgery in January, the presence of cancer was not known at the time. Subsequent tests revealed its presence.
Harry and Meghan relinquished their roles as senior members of the royal family in January 2020.
Subsequently, in June of the same year, they relocated to California, citing a desire for privacy and space to raise their son, Archie. The arrival of their second child, Lilibet, followed the next year.
In addition to their own family matters, news emerged of King Charles’ recent cancer diagnosis. Harry traveled to London in early February to visit his father shortly after the commencement of his treatment. Notably, during his trip, he did not have the opportunity to meet with his brother.
In a subsequent interview with ABC News, Harry expressed gratitude for the brief time spent with his father in London and acknowledged the potential for such health concerns to bring families closer together.
Furthermore, on Friday, Karine Jean-Pierre, press secretary for US President Joe Biden, described Catherine’s news as “terrible” and conveyed the White House’s wishes for her complete recovery.
“I think it’s important that we respect their privacy, especially at this time,” she said. “I’m not going to go further than that.”
Since Harry announced his intention to step back from royal duties, reports suggest that his relationship with his brother has deteriorated.
In his memoir, “Spare,” Harry delved into the conflicts he has experienced with William.
In recent years, sightings of the brothers together have been rare.
However, in 2022, there was an unexpected reunion when William and Catherine, as well as Harry and Meghan, appeared together to greet crowds outside Windsor Castle following the passing of the Queen.
Earlier this month, both brothers participated in a London awards ceremony honoring their late mother, Princess Diana, but did so from opposite sides of the Atlantic.
William delivered a speech in person at the Diana Legacy Award event, while Harry addressed the gathering via video link from California, following his brother’s departure.
