PSG cruise past Marseille to continue unbeaten run
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) extended their unbeaten streak to nine matches and maintained their position atop Ligue 1 with a commanding victory over Marseille on Sunday.
Several Marseille fans left the stadium at halftime, as their team trailed by three goals and was reduced to ten men in the first half.
PSG’s Joao Neves opened the scoring just seven minutes in, converting from close range after a Nuno Mendes cross was deflected into his path.
Marseille’s situation worsened when Amine Harit received a straight red card in the 20th minute for a foul on Marquinhos, followed by Leonardo Balerdi inadvertently deflecting an Achraf Hakimi cross into his own net.
With Marseille in early disarray, PSG took control of the game and continued pressing for more goals. They found their third in the 40th minute, as Bradley Barcola calmly finished an Ousmane Dembele cross at the back post.
English forward Mason Greenwood was substituted at halftime by manager Roberto de Zerbi, having struggled to make an impact for Marseille.
The hosts managed to hold PSG at bay in the second half but ultimately suffered a tough defeat, remaining third in Ligue 1, six points behind PSG.
PSG, now three points ahead of second-placed Monaco, will next face Lens on Saturday at 16:00 GMT.
