PSG suffers defeat despite Mbappe’s goal in final home game

Kylian Mbappe found the net in his farewell home game for Paris St-Germain, but the French champions suffered a defeat to Toulouse before their trophy celebration in Ligue 1.

In his first match since confirming his departure from PSG at the end of the season, Mbappe scored eight minutes into the game. The 25-year-old France forward, reportedly set to sign a five-year contract with Real Madrid, capitalized on a long ball from goalkeeper Arnau Tenas, controlling it over the Toulouse defense before firing in.

However, Toulouse equalized within five minutes through Thijs Dallinga and then took the lead with a stunning finish from Yann Gboho, before Frank Magri added a late third.

PSG secured their third consecutive Ligue 1 title, and 10th in the past 11 years, in April. However, they have suffered three consecutive defeats, with Borussia Dortmund winning both legs of their Champions League semi-final 1-0.

PSG’s remaining league fixtures are away games against Nice and Metz before the French Cup final against Lyon on 25 May.

The PSG supporters displayed a tifo banner in honor of Mbappe, who joined PSG from Monaco for £165.7m in August 2017. The World Cup winner will leave as PSG’s record goalscorer, having scored 256 goals in 307 appearances for the 12-time French champions.

Mbappe’s goal took his tally for the season to 44 goals and 10 assists in 47 games across all competitions, but PSG couldn’t capitalize further.

Despite the defeat, PSG celebrated their league triumph as fans stayed to watch the players lift L’Hexagoal – the Ligue 1 trophy – in a post-match ceremony.
