Bayern Munich is currently in talks with Austria’s coach, Ralf Rangnick, about him possibly taking over as their new manager.
Rangnick, aged 65, confirmed last week that he had been approached by the Bundesliga club for the position.
Bayern is looking for Rangnick to succeed Thomas Tuchel, who is set to depart at the season’s end.
Bayern believes Rangnick has the capability to steer the club back to success after Bayer Leverkusen ended their streak of 11 consecutive Bundesliga titles this season.
Rangnick is also busy preparing to lead Austria in the upcoming European Championship in Germany.
Currently, Bayern is not considering any other candidates for the managerial position, and a decision is expected by the end of the week.
Rangnick is reportedly interested in the job as it presents an opportunity to reorganize during a period of uncertainty at the club.
He stated last week that his decision will not be influenced by financial considerations.
“That doesn’t matter to me at all,” said Rangnick.
“For me it’s about other things: can I make a difference? Is there a chance of developing a team and being successful?
“My focus is on the Austrian national team. We are completely focused on the European Championship.”
Rangnick had a six-month stint as Manchester United interim manager during the 2021-22 season, as well as spells in charge of Ulm, Stuttgart, Hannover, Hoffenheim, Schalke and RB Leipzig.
