Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos has ended his retirement from international football to join the German squad for Euro 2024, hosted by Germany.
Kroos, aged 34, contributed to the German team’s victory in the 2014 World Cup and has earned 106 caps for Die Mannschaft.
Despite retiring in July 2021, he has now opted to reverse his decision following discussions with Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann.
“I’ll be playing for Germany again from March. Why? Because I was asked by the coach and I’m up for it,” Kroos said in an Instagram post.
“I’m sure that much more is possible with the team at the European Championship than most people think right now.”
Throughout his club career, Kroos has clinched the Bundesliga title and La Liga crown three times each, along with securing five Champions League titles.
In addition to his World Cup victory, he contributed to Germany’s third-place finish in the 2010 tournament and their semi-final appearance in Euro 2012.
He remains eligible for selection in Nagelsmann’s squad for the upcoming international friendlies against France and the Netherlands.
Germany will kick off their Euro 2024 campaign against Scotland at the Allianz Arena in Munich on Friday, June 14.
