Real Madrid midfielder out of Super Cup with knee injury

Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga will miss Wednesday’s UEFA Super Cup game against Atalanta and the early part of the season due to a knee injury.

The French midfielder, 21, twisted his knee during a training session at the Warsaw National Stadium on Tuesday.

Camavinga caught his studs in the ground and subsequently collided with teammate Aurelien Tchouameni.

A scan revealed that Camavinga had sprained the collateral ligament in his left knee, as announced by Real Madrid on Wednesday.

Although Real Madrid did not provide a specific recovery timeframe, reports suggest the midfielder could be sidelined for up to seven weeks.

Camavinga featured in 46 matches across all competitions last season, contributing to Real Madrid’s La Liga title and Champions League victory.

Real Madrid will face the 2024 Europa League winners, Atalanta, in Poland for the Super Cup. Kylian Mbappe is expected to make his competitive debut for Real Madrid following his transfer from Paris Saint-Germain.

The club will begin their La Liga title defence against Mallorca at the Bernabeu on 18 August.
