The body of former Black Stars striker Raphael Dwamena has been brought to Ghana in preparation for the player’s final funeral ceremonies and burial.
His arrival in Accra was welcomed by his family, friends, and sympathizers on Friday night.
Dwamena tragically collapsed and died during a league game between FK Egnatia and KF Partizani in Albania on November 11, 2023.
In images and videos posted on social media, the player’s family assembled to receive his body before its transfer to the morgue.
The Dwamena family has not yet disclosed the date for the final burial services, as the nation prepares to bid him farewell.
The 28-year-old striker featured in nine games for the Black Stars, netting two goals before cardiac issues curtailed his involvement with the senior national team.
His heart condition first came to light when a potential move to Brighton and Hove Albion fell through due to a failed medical examination in 2017.
Dwamena subsequently played for various clubs, including spells at Levante and Real Zaragoza in Spain.
On Friday, November 17, 2023, the Black Stars team paid homage to their former teammate, observing a minute of silence before their World Cup qualifiers match against Madagascar, as documented on social media.
