Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr suffered elimination from the Asian Champions League quarter-finals in a penalty shootout defeat to Al-Ain.

Al-Nassr, trailing 1-0 after the initial leg, found themselves 3-0 behind on aggregate but staged a comeback to push the match into extra time.

Despite missing a straightforward chance during regulation time, Ronaldo converted an 118th-minute penalty for Al-Nassr, who were down to 10 men, leveling the aggregate score at 4-4.

In the subsequent shootout, Ronaldo was the lone scorer for Al-Nassr in their 3-1 loss.

The 39-year-old, a five-time Ballon d’Or recipient, was left stunned after squandering a three-yard opportunity when the Al Ain goalkeeper spilled a shot into his path while his team trailed 3-2 on aggregate after the 60th minute.

However, former Manchester United teammate Alex Telles netted in the 72nd minute to force extra time for Al-Nassr, who were reduced to 10 men following Ayman Yahya’s expulsion.

Al-Ain, hailing from the United Arab Emirates, regained the lead in the initial extra-time period, but Ronaldo maintained composure from the penalty spot with two minutes remaining to force a shootout.

Al-Nassr found themselves trailing 2-0 in the shootout when Ronaldo took his penalty, and their defeat was sealed when Otavio missed their fourth spot-kick.
