Liverpool extended their lead at the top of the Premier League to nine points with a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium, thanks to a brace from Mohamed Salah.

Salah’s two goals brought his Premier League tally to 178, moving him up to sixth place on the league’s all-time scoring list, surpassing Frank Lampard’s 177.

The Egyptian opened the scoring in the 30th minute, calmly converting a penalty after Cody Gakpo was tripped by Lewis Cook in the box.

Bournemouth, who have already secured wins against Arsenal, Manchester City, and Nottingham Forest this season, came close to taking an early lead when Antoine Semenyo’s shot struck the post.

Semenyo had another golden opportunity to level the score early in the second half, but Alisson denied him with a crucial save. The hosts continued to press, with substitute Marcus Tavernier hitting the inside of the post, only for Justin Kluivert to send the rebound over the bar.

Their missed chances proved costly as Salah sealed the win with a superb curling effort late in the game, ensuring all three points for the Reds.

Liverpool now sit on 56 points after 23 matches, though Arsenal could reduce the gap to six points with a win over Manchester City on Sunday.
