Sheffield United halted Watford’s winning streak in the Championship with a 1-0 victory at Bramall Lane.

Watford’s goalkeeper, Daniel Bachmann, inadvertently scored an own goal within the first two minutes, helping the Blades maintain their unbeaten run in the league.

Bachmann redeemed himself by saving a penalty from Kieffer Moore in the 15th minute, awarded after Ollie Arblaster was fouled.

The closest Watford came to scoring was a second-half strike from Ryan Andrews that hit the post, marking their first defeat of the season.

Sheffield United made a strong start, with Callum O’Hare’s dribble into the box leading to a deflected cut-back off Bachmann that crossed the line.

The Blades had a chance to double their lead 10 minutes later when Arblaster was fouled by Yasser Larouci in the box, but Bachmann saved Moore’s penalty with a low dive to his left.

Chris Wilder’s team believed they should have been awarded another penalty just before half-time when Moussa Sissoko tugged at O’Hare’s ankle as he tried to rise, but referee Andrew Kitchen dismissed their claims.

In the second half, Ryan Andrews hit the post from distance, and former Sheffield United player Daniel Jebbison made his Watford debut as they sought an equalizer.

The best chance for Watford to level came when Kieffer Moore missed a one-on-one opportunity with 10 minutes remaining, his effort blocked by Bachmann.

The match ended with a tense atmosphere at Bramall Lane, with some physical challenges escalating towards the end. Nevertheless, Sheffield United secured their first home league win since December 2023.
