The Super Eagles’ 2013 AFCON winner, Brown Ideye, has completed a move to Enyimba, the nine-time Nigerian Premier Football League champions, for an undisclosed fee. The deal will see him play for the club until the end of the current season.
Enyimba’s Sporting Director and former Super Eagles forward, Ifeanyi Ekwueme, confirmed that Ideye will represent the People’s Elephant.
“We have been discussing with him for several weeks and he agreed to play for us. We are very happy to have a legend in our club” Enyimba said
“Ideye will be with us until the end of this season and we believe he will strengthen our team’s attack as we compete in the league and the continent.”
Ideye has been without a club since leaving Kuwaiti side Al Yarmouk in 2022 but he is now set to stage a return to Nigeria’s top flight following former Super Eagles teammates Ahmed Musa and Abdullahi Shehu who are currently with Kano Pillars in the Nigerian elite division.
The move will also mark the return of Ideye to the domestic scene 17 years after he left Ocean Boys in 2007.
The 36-year-old clinched a league and cup double with Ocean Boys in 2006
He was on the verge of joining former league champions Rivers United in October but the move collapsed.
Enyimba have two matches crucial to their domestic and continental aspirations in the next five days as they play Sunshine Stars on Wednesday in a rescheduled Nigeria premier football league game before traveling to Maputo, Mozambique for their third group game in the CAF Confederation Cup against Black Bulls.
