The Super Eagles of Nigeria have dropped to 45th position in the latest FIFA ranking revealed on Thursday.

The Eric Chelle-tutored national side also slipped out of the top five nations in Africa.

The AFCON 2024 silver medalists fell one spot from the previous ranking following disappointing results in recent international fixtures.

The home-based Super Eagles endured a poor CHAN campaign, while the senior team labored to defeat Rwanda in Uyo before settling for a draw against South Africa.

These underwhelming performances left Nigeria with a negative points tally during the period under review, causing them to surrender fifth place in Africa to Ivory Coast.

Morocco, currently ranked 11th globally, remain Africa’s top team, followed by Senegal, Egypt, and Algeria behind the 2022 FIFA World Cup semi-finalists.

Zimbabwe recorded the biggest drop, falling nine spots to 125th in the world.

Meanwhile, Spain have climbed to the top of the global rankings, displacing Argentina, who slipped to third, with France moving into second place.

On the women’s side, Spain also overtook the USA as number one, while the Super Falcons of Nigeria maintained their position as 36th best in the world.
