The Super Eagles have secured their qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with one game still remaining in the qualifiers.
Libya’s 1-0 victory over Rwanda in Kigali confirmed Nigeria’s place in the tournament finals. This result leaves Rwanda five points behind Nigeria, making it impossible for them to overtake the Super Eagles, even if they win the upcoming match against Nigeria in Uyo, Akwa Ibom on Monday.
Nigeria recently drew 1-1 with Benin Republic, solidifying their position at the top of Group D with 11 points from five matches. They are followed by Benin Republic with seven points and Rwanda with five, while Libya sits at the bottom with four points.
Benin Republic must win their final match against Libya or hope that Nigeria defeats Rwanda to retain their qualifying position.
In the last AFCON edition, Nigeria finished as runners-up, narrowly losing to host nation Côte d’Ivoire. Meanwhile, Victor Osimhen’s recent goal brings his tally to 23, tying him for second on Nigeria’s all-time top scorer list alongside the legendary Segun Odegbami.
