Victor Boniface has returned to Werder Bremen after completing a rehabilitation programme at Bayer Leverkusen.
The forward underwent surgery in January after sustaining an injury during a training session.
The 25-year-old was initially expected to miss the remainder of the season.
However, the striker may now return to action before the campaign ends.
“Victor will train individually for the entire week initially. Afterwards, he will be carefully reintroduced to team training, so that we hope he can still play this season,” Werder Bremen Head of Professional Football Peter Niemeyer.
Boniface joined Werder Bremen on loan from Bayer Leverkusen last summer.
He has registered two assists in 12 league appearances for the club.
