Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare has promised to justify the confidence shown in him by AFC Ajax, insisting that his main objective is to score goals and help the Dutch giants return to the top of Dutch football.
The 25-year-old recently joined Ajax on a season-long loan deal from Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C. and has already made a positive impression after scoring in a pre-season friendly against FC Volendam.
Reflecting on his early days at the Amsterdam-based club, Arokodare praised the welcoming atmosphere within the team and highlighted the players’ desire to recover from last season’s disappointing performance.
“The players and the coaches are very welcoming. The mentality is great,” he said.
The striker added that the entire squad understands the task ahead and is determined to restore Ajax’s status among the leading clubs in the Netherlands.
“The team knows what happened last season and what we have to do this season. When you step onto the training field, you can feel the mentality. Everyone wants to win and return to the top.”
Arokodare also stated that he knows what is required of him as a forward and is ready to contribute with goals.
“I want to help the team by scoring goals. I know how to score. That’s my job,” he said.
The former Genk attacker explained that he would still contribute to the team’s success even when he fails to find the net by putting pressure on defenders.
“If I don’t score, I try to make it hell for the defenders. If I fight for the team, the individual success will follow,” he added.
Ajax will be hoping the striker’s impressive pre-season form continues into the new Eredivisie season as the club aims to challenge for domestic titles once again.
