Nigeria’s Super Falcons began their 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) campaign with a dominant 3-0 win over Tunisia on Sunday at the Stade Larbi Zaouli in Casablanca, Morocco.
The Falcons opened the scoring in the 3rd minute when Rinsola Babajide delivered a precise free kick that found Asisat Oshoala, who headed home to give Nigeria an early lead.
Coach Justine Madugu’s side continued to apply pressure and doubled their advantage just before halftime, with Babajide turning goal scorer in the 45th minute after beating the Tunisian goalkeeper.
Babajide celebrated her goal by mimicking Diogo Jota’s iconic celebration in tribute to the late Liverpool forward, who tragically passed away alongside his brother, André Silva, last Thursday.

The Super Falcons had several opportunities to seal the game earlier but failed to convert their chances. Returnee Ashleigh Plumptre came close with a long-range floating effort, but the Tunisian goalkeeper did well to tip it over the bar.
Nigeria’s persistent pressure finally paid off in the 80th minute when Chinwendu Ihezuo calmly slotted a left-footed shot into the bottom corner to round off the victory.
The Super Falcons are aiming to move past their semi-final exit to Morocco in 2022 and are determined to secure a record-extending 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title.
