The Super Falcons of Nigeria have been crowned Women’s National Team of the Year at the 2024 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards held in Marrakech, Morocco.

The Falcons clinched the award ahead of South Africa’s Banyana Banyana and Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses.

Ibrahim Gusau, President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), received the award on behalf of the team and dedicated it to Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, for her unwavering support for women’s football.

This year, the Falcons made history by qualifying for the Olympics for the first time in 16 years and representing Africa at the Paris Games. However, their performance in the group stage fell short, losing all matches—a contrast to their remarkable 2023 World Cup campaign, where they reached the round of 16.

In the men’s category, Ivory Coast’s Elephants won the National Team of the Year award, beating Nigeria’s Super Eagles.
