Team Nigeria’s para powerlifter Esther Nworgu claimed the silver medal in the women’s up to 41kg category at the Paralympic Games with an impressive lift of 118kg.

Nworgu broke the Paralympic record twice during the competition, lifting 112kg and then 118kg in her final attempts. However, China’s Cui Zhe secured the gold medal with a 119kg lift, setting a new Paralympic Games record.

Despite the close contest, Cui had the advantage of lifting after Nworgu, clinching the gold with her final attempt.

Nworgu’s silver marks Team Nigeria’s second medal at the Paralympics, following Eniola Bolaji’s bronze medal win in the Women’s Singles SL3 category. Bolaji triumphed over Ukraine’s Kozyna Oksana 21-9, 21-9 on Monday.
