Alessio Fortino, a social media executive with SSC Napoli, has resigned from his role at the Italian club.
Fortino’s resignation comes a few days after a video shared on Napoli’s official TikTok created controversy between the club and Victor Osimhen.
The video wherein the Nigerian was presented in a way that suggested mockery generated ire among football lovers.
The incident prompted Roberto Calenda, Osimhen’s agent, to threaten a lawsuit against the club. He added that the clip could “cause very serious damage to the player”.
Osimhen also deleted posts and photos related to the Italian Serie A champions on his Instagram page.
In response, Napoli stated that the TikTok videos were “never intended to offend or make fun” of Osimhen.
However, in the latest twist, Fortino, who had worked with the club for over two years, announced his resignation in a post on his Instagram account on Sunday.
“Today, after 805 days, my professional adventure with SSC Naples ends. For many, this job would be comparable to a dream,” the post reads.
“For me, it was a simple daily reality: a reality built on commitment and fueled by the constant desire to learn and play.
“I cannot help but express my deepest gratitude to all the colleagues, collaborators, partners and supporters I’ve met along this long journey for making this experience so special.
“Leaving the company with a baggage of great memories and an excitement for the new adventures that lie ahead.”
Reports in the Italian media claim that the resignation has nothing to do with the controversial TikTok video.
According to Sportmediaset, an Italian publication, Fortino had informed Napoli of his planned resignation a few weeks before the TikTok incident.
