President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Rangers International FC on winning the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title, praising the club for its impressive performance throughout the season.
Rangers secured the league crown with 68 points from 38 matches, finishing ahead of Rivers United to claim a record ninth top-flight title.
In a statement issued by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu described the victory as a proud moment for Nigerian football and commended the players, management, and supporters of the Enugu-based side.
The President recalled Rangers’ historic dominance in Nigerian and African football during the 1970s and 1980s, noting their appearance in the African Cup of Champions Clubs final in 1975 and their African Cup Winners’ Cup triumph in 1977.
Tinubu also praised Peter Mbah for supporting sports development in Enugu State, stating that the club’s success reflects continued investment in youth and sporting development.
“As one of the oldest clubs in Nigeria, Rangers have produced some of the nation’s finest football players who went on to make the country proud on the global stage. I am proud of their achievement,” the President said.
He further commended Rivers United for their strong campaign and sportsmanship, wishing both clubs success in next season’s CAF Champions League.
