Torres nets brace as Barcelona defeat Dortmund in thriller
Second-half substitute Ferran Torres netted twice to secure Barcelona’s victory over Borussia Dortmund, lifting them to second place in their Champions League group.
In a thrilling second half, Raphinha opened the scoring for Barcelona with a clinical finish into the far corner after breaking behind the Dortmund defense.
The hosts responded when Serhou Guirassy earned a penalty after being fouled by Pau Cubarsi in the box. The Guinean forward calmly slotted the spot-kick into the bottom corner to level the match.
Torres restored Barcelona’s lead by capitalizing on a rebound after Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel parried Fermin Lopez’s effort.
Guirassy struck again late in the game, taking advantage of a Pascal Gross assist to slot into an empty net after rounding goalkeeper Inaki Pena.
However, Torres sealed the victory in the 85th minute with a precise low shot into the bottom corner.
The win boosts Barcelona’s chances of a top-eight finish, securing direct qualification to the last 16 by skipping the knockout play-off round.
Earlier in the match, both teams had opportunities in a goalless first half. Raphinha narrowly missed converting Lamine Yamal’s cross, while Marcel Sabitzer fired over from Julien Duranville’s cutback.
Guirassy also found the back of the net early in the second half, but the goal was disallowed due to Jamie Gittens being offside during the build-up.
