Tottenham have secured the signing of Lens defender Kevin Danso on loan with an obligation to buy, beating Wolves to the deal.

The 26-year-old Austrian international chose Spurs despite being scheduled for a medical in the Midlands. The transfer includes a mandatory purchase clause worth £21 million, with a five-year contract set to take effect in the summer.

Danso will wear the number 4 shirt, with the move pending international clearance and a work permit, both of which are expected to be finalized ahead of Thursday’s Carabao Cup semi-final against Liverpool.

The defender has previous experience in English football, having made 10 appearances during a loan spell with Southampton in the 2019-20 season. He also spent time in the academies of Reading and MK Dons earlier in his career.

Danso’s signing comes after Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou called for reinforcements amid a growing injury crisis that has sidelined 10 players.

Although Spurs initially targeted attacking players, their focus shifted to defensive options after Radu Dragusin suffered a knee injury against Elfsborg, joining Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie on the injury list. However, Micky van de Ven has recently returned to action.

Tottenham had also explored other defensive options, including Chelsea’s Axel Disasi and AC Milan’s Fikayo Tomori, before finalizing the move for Danso.
