Tottenham players giving everything – Postecoglou

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou believes his players are “giving their all in every match” and have a “great opportunity” to achieve success this season.

Spurs have managed just one win in their last 10 Premier League outings and are winless in the past six.

Sunday’s 3-2 loss to Everton marked their third consecutive defeat, leaving them 15th in the table and raising doubts about Postecoglou’s ability to lead the club forward.

Despite their league struggles, Tottenham remains in contention in three other competitions: the Carabao Cup, FA Cup, and Europa League.

“We are still in three cup competitions and there’s a fantastic opportunity for us there in the next couple of months,” Postecoglou said.

“The players are giving everything in every game. The players aren’t prioritising anything – they are trying their utmost.”

Tottenham have endured a challenging Premier League season, recording 12 losses in their first 22 matches—their highest tally at this stage since the 1997-98 campaign.

Their most promising chance for silverware this season appears to be in the EFL Cup, where they hold a 1-0 advantage after the first leg of their semi-final against Liverpool.

Spurs are also still in contention in the FA Cup, with an upcoming fourth-round clash against Aston Villa, and remain ninth in the Europa League standings—just one spot shy of automatic qualification for the last 16, with two games remaining.

Manager Ange Postecoglou has attributed much of the team’s struggles to injuries, leaving him with only 13 fit senior players for Thursday’s Europa League match against Hoffenheim (17:45 GMT).

“You really need a really strong squad of players to compete in Europe and do well in cup competitions because it’s not manageable when you play three games a week,” Postecoglou added.

“The reality is we don’t have a lot of choice [because of injuries]. You’re always assessing why it’s happening.

“Early part of the year there were some things that were repeatedly happening with injuries so we’ve worked hard to better that process. Recently it’s accumulation and toll of fixtures.”
