Tottenham’s Bentancur taken off on stretcher after injury against Liverpool
ottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur was stretchered off just six minutes into Wednesday’s Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Liverpool.
The 27-year-old Uruguay international collapsed unchallenged as he attempted to head a ball from a corner.
Bentancur received treatment on the pitch for about nine minutes, including oxygen, before being substituted for forward Brennan Johnson.
It was later confirmed that he was conscious, able to speak, and was taken to the hospital for further examination.
Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou told Sky Sports after the game: “I don’t have all the information. My understanding is he is conscious and he was conscious when he got to the dressing room. We took him to hospital to get him checked over.
“It was worrying and always a concern but from what I know hopefully he will be OK.”
The match at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium ended 1-0 in favor of Spurs, thanks to Lucas Bergvall’s late goal.
