Liverpool FC’s Trent Alexander-Arnold on  Monday (today),  May 5, 2025 shook the football world to its foundation by announcing a surprise departure from his club of 20 years. 

Breaking the news on his official X (formerly Twitter) in a 2minutes, 56 seconds, Trent said he will be departing the club when his contract concludes at the end of the season, describing it as the “toughest decision” of his life.

The England defender, instrumental in Liverpool’s Premier League triumph this season, has been strongly linked with a potential free transfer to Real Madrid.

“After 20 years at Liverpool Football Club, now is the time for me to confirm that I will be leaving at the end of the season,” the 26-year-old posted on X.

However, netizens are taking the news with mixed feelings. While some feel it was a good decision, others think he should still stay back. Some also said the club will be better without him.
