U20 Women Word Cup: Falconets cruise past Venezuela, make last 16

Nigeria’s Falconets have advanced to the round of 16 in the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup after a commanding 4-0 victory over Venezuela in their final Group D match at the Estadio Olimpico Pascual Guerrero in Colombia on Saturday night.

Goals from Amina Bello, Chiamaka Okwuchukwu, and Flourish Sebastine in the first half gave Nigeria a comfortable lead, with Joy Igbokwe adding a fourth goal in stoppage time to seal the win.

The victory marked the Falconets’ second win from three group-stage matches, earning them six points, the same as Germany.

In the match, Okwuchukwu assisted Bello for the opener in the 16th minute, before heading in Nigeria’s second goal in the 28th minute. Sebastine tapped in the third goal just before halftime, and Igbokwe, who came on as a substitute, scored a stunning long-range goal in stoppage time.

Despite finishing with the same points as group leaders Germany, Nigeria placed second due to goal difference and head-to-head records. The Falconets will now face the top team from Group E, either Japan or Austria, in the knockout stage on September 13.
