Champions League 2026/27: Five Premier League Clubs Discover Their Opponents
Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool and Aston Villa have all learned their Champions League opponents for the 2026/27 campaign following Thursday’s league-phase draw in Monaco.
Last season’s runners-up Arsenal face one of the biggest ties of the opening phase when they welcome Real Madrid to the Emirates Stadium, while they will also travel to Germany to take on Bayern Munich.
Liverpool have been drawn against Atletico Madrid at Anfield and will visit Inter Milan at San Siro, setting up a swift reunion for Curtis Jones following his £30million move to the Italian club.
Manchester City, who only narrowly progressed from the league phase last season, have been handed difficult fixtures against reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona. PSG will also face Aston Villa and Barcelona.
Manchester United will welcome Bayern Munich to Old Trafford in a repeat of the iconic 1999 Champions League final. Michael Carrick’s side will also travel to Atletico Madrid and host Roma.
Aston Villa’s reward for their Europa League triumph includes home meetings with Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund, alongside an away trip to Barcelona.
A total of 36 teams will compete in the league phase, with each club playing eight matches — four at home and four away — producing 144 fixtures overall.
The five Premier League clubs cannot be drawn against one another during the league phase. UEFA has also introduced a new rule preventing teams that have met in either of the previous two seasons from facing each other again. As a result, Liverpool vs Real Madrid and Inter Milan vs Arsenal could not be repeated in the 2026/27 league phase.
UEFA will announce the confirmed fixtures and dates by Saturday. The matches will be played across September 8, 9 and 10; October 13, 14, 20 and 21; November 3, 4, 24 and 25; December 8 and 9; January 19, 20 and 27.
