USA to face D’Tigress in Olympic women’s basketball knockouts

Reigning champions USA will face history-making Nigeria in the quarter-finals of the Paris Olympics women’s basketball competition on Wednesday, following Sunday’s draw.

Nigeria is the first African nation to reach the last eight of an Olympic basketball tournament, for both men and women.

They face a formidable challenge against the Americans, who have won the last seven titles.

Nigeria secured their spot by defeating Canada 79-70 on Sunday, while the USA overcame Germany 87-68, with Jackie Young scoring 19 points and A’ja Wilson adding 14.

Host nation France, the bronze medallists from the Tokyo Games, will play Germany, while Spain will take on Belgium.

The first match on Wednesday features Serbia against Australia.

The knockout stages of the men’s and women’s basketball tournaments will be held in Paris after group play took place near Lille.
