Usyk-Fury rematch ‘will be better’ – Warren

Tyson Fury’s promoter, Frank Warren, believes the rematch between undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk and Fury “will be even better” than their first fight.

Warren, 72, stated that the rematch of Saturday’s thrilling bout in Saudi Arabia “will be announced in due course.”

Usyk defeated the Briton by split decision to become the first undisputed heavyweight champion of the four-belt era.

“There will be a rematch,” Warren said.

“I think it will be better than the original fight.

“They both know each other, they’ve shared the ring and they’ll be looking to use what they’ve gained from the fight as an advantage to beat their opponent.”

Ukraine’s Oleksandr Usyk, who previously held the undisputed title at cruiserweight, handed Tyson Fury his first professional loss, adding the WBC belt to his WBA, WBO, and IBF collection.

The two are expected to face off again in a rematch in October, though it is unlikely all four belts will be at stake, as the IBF plans to strip Usyk for not facing its mandatory challenger next.

Warren noted that the belts are not the primary motivation for Fury’s return to the ring, as he seeks revenge.

“Of course, he [Fury] wants to win and he’s got to win,” Warren said.

“He’s only asking for the rematch because he thinks he can win. He believes in himself and it would cement his legacy.

“Everyone out there thinks Usyk is the best out there so let’s see what Tyson does. He rang me and he said he wants the rematch so here we are.”
