‘We are worst team in history of Manchester United’, — Amorim

Ruben Amorim has made the stunning claim that his Manchester United side are “the worst team in the club’s history” after a woeful 3-1 defeat to Brighton on Sunday.

Since Amorim’s arrival from Sporting Lisbon to replace Erik ten Hag, United have endured six losses in 11 Premier League games, leaving them languishing in 13th place.

“We are the worst team maybe in Manchester United’s history,” Amorim admitted after the dismal display at Old Trafford. “I know you want headlines, but we must acknowledge this to change it. Imagine how this feels for a fan or for me as the manager.”

Although United sit 10 points above the relegation zone, their performance against Brighton showcased their struggles. Goals from Kaoru Mitoma, Georginio Rutter, and Yankuba Minteh overwhelmed United, who briefly equalised through a Bruno Fernandes penalty.

United’s six home defeats in their first 12 matches mark their worst start since the 1893-94 season. Furthermore, this is the earliest they have reached 10 league losses since 1989-90.

Despite mounting pressure, Amorim remains steadfast in his 3-4-3 philosophy, even as critics argue it does not suit his squad. “I won’t change my approach. We need to survive this moment and work through it. I’m not naive, but I believe we can succeed,” he insisted.

Amorim, 39, was hailed as a rising star of European coaching upon his November appointment. Now, he faces the daunting task of stabilising a struggling United side.
