West Ham agree loan deal with Man City for England midfielder

West Ham and Manchester City have reached an agreement for the loan transfer of England midfielder Kalvin Phillips for the remainder of the season.

At the age of 28, Phillips signed a six-year contract with Manchester City in a £45 million deal from Leeds in July 2022.

Despite the substantial transfer, he has faced challenges securing a regular spot under Pep Guardiola, featuring in only two starts this season across all competitions.

Now, with reported interest from Juventus, Phillips is poised to undergo a medical in London later this week as part of his potential loan move to West Ham.

Personal terms are expected to be easily settled, as the Hammers are set to cover his salary, and there is said to be an option for a permanent transfer.

While several clubs were keen on signing Phillips, City’s demand for a significant loan fee has deterred clubs like Newcastle from pursuing the midfielder.

Despite his club situation, Phillips remains a member of Gareth Southgate’s England squad and is returning to the UK today with the rest of the City squad after a warm-weather training camp in Abu Dhabi.
