West Ham United have appointed Nuno Espirito Santo as their new head coach, just hours after sacking Graham Potter on Saturday amid a poor start to the Premier League season.
Nuno, 51, who signed a three-year deal, will lead the struggling Hammers for the first time against Everton on Monday. The Portuguese manager was dismissed by Nottingham Forest earlier this year following a disagreement over transfer policies but previously guided Forest to European football and helped Wolves secure a stable Premier League presence.
Potter’s departure had been widely expected, with West Ham sitting second from bottom and registering just three points from five league games, alongside an early League Cup exit. His tenure lasted only nine months, following a disappointing 14th-place finish last season.
The board cited “results and performances” failing to meet expectations as the reason for the change. Potter, who won just six of his 25 matches, expressed disappointment at his dismissal but admitted results were not good enough.
Nuno said he was “very proud” to join the London club and is focused on getting the “very best” from the squad to become competitive again.
