Nigerian football icon, Austin Jay Jay Okocha, has expressed his views on the prevalence of strikers over defenders and other positions in the country’s recent football talent pool.

At present, the West African nation boasts a surplus of top-notch strikers, surpassing any other African country and even global standards, while other playing positions on the field receive comparatively less attention.

Victor Osimhen holds the distinction of being rated as the premier striker on the continent, with standout talents such as Gift Orban, Terem Moffi, Victor Boniface, and Taiwo Awoniyi also earning recognition among the top attackers.

In a recent interview, the legendary midfielder shared insights into why his compatriots exhibit a greater inclination towards goal-scoring, shedding light on the prevailing football landscape.

“I will say football is part of our culture in Nigeria. And every kid in Nigeria wants to be a goal-scorer. [They] want to be noticed,” Okocha stated.

With the ongoing success that Nigerian strikers are currently experiencing globally, the allure of participating in such a prominent position is undoubtedly poised to keep growing.
