Florian Wirtz scored twice on his Champions League debut as Bayer Leverkusen eased past Feyenoord with a dominant display.
The German side opened the scoring just five minutes in when Wirtz slotted the ball into the bottom corner from 20 yards.
Xabi Alonso’s wing-backs played a key role in the second goal, with Jeremie Frimpong providing the cross for Alex Grimaldo to finish.
Frimpong was instrumental again, delivering a pass to the 21-year-old Germany international, Wirtz, who volleyed in his second of the night.
Leverkusen sealed the win before halftime when Edmond Tapsoba’s header deflected off Feyenoord goalkeeper Timon Wellenreuther and into the net.
Despite having fewer shots, the Bundesliga side were clinical in their execution.
This marked Feyenoord’s first loss since Dane Brian Priske took over as manager, replacing Arne Slot, who is bound for Liverpool.
