Lionel Messi, the icon of Argentina and the freshly crowned World Cup champion, took to Instagram on Sunday night to celebrate the victory in Qatar and to thank his supporters, family, and nation, stating that he had always dreamed of it and it was an incredible moment for him.

For the first time since 1986, when Diego Maradona led the Argentine national team to triumph over West Germany, Messi led Argentina to victory over France to win the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

In a thrilling 120-minute game that ended in a 3-3 draw, the two teams battled it out until the very last second. France forward and star player Kylian Mbappe scored a hat-trick to tie the score in extra time and send the game to penalties, where Argentina defeated France 4-2.

Messi, a seven-time winner of the Ballon d’Or, in a moment of sheer, unadulterated joy after his side won tweeted,

“CHAMPIONS OF THE WORLD!!!!!! So many times I dreamed it, so much I wanted it that I still don’t fall. I can’t believe it.

“Thank you so much to my family, to all who support me and also to all who believed in us. We prove once again that Argentinians when we fight together and united we are able to achieve what we aim.

“The merit is of this group, which is above individuals, is the strength of all fighting for the same dream that was also the one of all Argentinians.

“We did it!!! LET’S GO ARGENTINA DAMN!!!!. We’re seeing each other soon.”

In addition to the FIFA World Cup, Messi has also won 10 La Liga champions, eight Supercopa de Espana, seven Copa Del Rey, four Champions League, three FIFA Club World Cup, three UEFA Super Cup, the Olympic gold, one Finalissima, seven Ballon d’Or (the most of any player), three times as the best player in Europe by the UEFA, and twice as the best player in the history of FIFA Men’s Football.

Many people believe that Messi is the best player to ever play the game.
