‘Worst year of my life already,’ Super Eagles goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali loses mum weeks after father’s death
Super Eagles goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, has lost his mother.
The 28-year-old announced the demise of his mother in a post on X account on Wednesday.
“Rip mom, worst year of my life already,” the tweet reads.
The goalkeeper, however, did not reveal the cause of the death.
In a post on his Instagram story, a bereaved Nwabali also wrote, “It’s a very, very crazy world indeed”.
Nwabali’s mother’s death comes a little over six weeks after he lost his father.
The goalkeeper loses his parents on the back of one of his most successful years as a professional footballer.
Nwabali broke into the Super Eagles’ first team in early 2024. The Chippa United goalkeeper was named the team’s first-choice by Jose Peseiro, former Eagles head coach, ahead of the AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire.
His performance in the competition made him a fan favourite in the team. He was named the man-of-the-match in the semi-final against South Africa after saving two penalties in the shootout that sent Nigeria to the final.
Nwabali was a nominee for the 2024 CAF Goalkeeper of the Year award but did not make the final shortlist for the award.
