Lamine Yamal delivered a stunning hat-trick as Hansi Flick celebrated his 100th match at the helm of Barcelona with a commanding 4-1 victory over Villarreal at Camp Nou.

Yamal’s three goals, combined with a late strike from substitute Robert Lewandowski, lifted Barcelona four points clear at the summit of LaLiga, ahead of Real Madrid’s clash with Getafe on Monday.

The contest began quietly for the opening 20 minutes before springing to life when Yamal cut in from the flank and tested Luiz Junior. The Villarreal goalkeeper made the save initially but was soon beaten. A precise, defence-splitting pass from Fermin Lopez released Yamal, who took a single touch before calmly slotting into the bottom-left corner.

Eight minutes before half-time, Yamal struck again in spectacular fashion. He twisted past Sergi Cardona, shrugged off Alberto Moleiro’s weak challenge, and curled a superb effort into the top corner to double both his personal tally and Barcelona’s lead.

Despite Barcelona’s control and Yamal’s brilliance, Villarreal pulled one back in the 49th minute. Pape Gueye converted from close range after the hosts failed to clear a teasing Nicolas Pepe corner, beating Joan Garcia to reduce the deficit.

Flick’s men responded in the 69th minute, restoring their two-goal advantage. Yamal completed his hat-trick with a composed finish after being set up by Pedri, who had entered the match just 10 minutes earlier.

The result was wrapped up in the first minute of second-half stoppage time when Jules Kounde delivered a cross that Lewandowski turned in from close range. The goal was initially checked for offside but stood following a VAR review.

Data Debrief: Yamal sends more records tumbling on Flick’s milestone outing

Heading into the fixture, Yamal had gone scoreless in his previous two LaLiga appearances, but he responded with an electrifying attacking performance that further underlined his rapid ascent.

At 18 years and 230 days, Yamal became the youngest player to net his first LaLiga hat-trick, eclipsing Gio dos Santos’ previous benchmark set against Murcia in May 2008 at 19 years and six days.

The teenager now boasts 27 goals in 95 Spanish top-flight matches and is the first player in the 21st century to reach 25 goals before turning 19 across Europe’s top five leagues.

Barcelona’s victory was fully merited. They produced an expected goals (xG) figure of 2.96 from 19 attempts, compared to Villarreal’s 1.29 from six shots. The triumph marked Flick’s 75th win in his first 100 games in charge across all competitions (D9 L16), with only Luis Enrique recording more victories (80) at the same milestone for the Blaugrana.
