Lamine Yamal has suffered a hamstring injury but is expected to recover in time for the upcoming World Cup, his club FC Barcelona confirmed on Thursday.

“Tests have confirmed that first-team player Lamine Yamal has a hamstring injury in his left leg,” the club said.

“The player will undergo conservative treatment. Lamine Yamal will miss the rest of the season and is expected to be available for the World Cup,” which runs from June 11 to July 19.

Spain begin their Group H campaign against Cape Verde on June 15, before facing Saudi Arabia on June 21 and Uruguay six days later.

Yamal sustained the injury during Barcelona’s 1-0 win over Celta Vigo in a LaLiga match on Wednesday.

The teenage winger scored the decisive goal, converting a penalty after winning it himself. However, he appeared to pull up immediately after scoring, calling for medical attention and lying on the pitch as teammates celebrated.

He was later substituted for Roony Bardghji.

The victory moved Barcelona nine points ahead of Real Madrid at the top of the table, with six matches remaining, including a crucial El Clásico clash on May 10.
