BBNaija: Onyeka becomes first solo Head of House

This season, Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) contestant Onyeka made history by becoming the first Head of House (HoH) in Season 9 to serve alone.

Since the beginning of BBNaija Season 9, couples or duos have typically split the Head of House role.

Onyeka, however, has defied this trend by seizing the Head of House position on her own. She succeeded Shaun and Victoria, popularly known as Shatoria, who held the combined position previously.

Since Onyeka is now the only Head of House (HoH), she is exempt from this week’s eviction. But Chizoba, her ex-partner, is still in danger and can be kicked out on Sunday if she is nominated.

Recall that, the organisers of BBNaija season nine have announced the unpairing of the housemates.

The 28 housemates that were partnered up into a total of 14 teams were revealed in the July 28 debut of the reality TV program.

However, with the eviction on Sunday, Biggie ended the partnerships.

The housemates will now compete individually rather than in pairs.

The most recent changes state that there will only be one head of house (HOH), and that person will only be covered by automatic immunity.

There will also be individual evictions.

This is not the first twist the organisers of the reality TV program will be adding to the season.

Custodian challenge and HOH ballot were discarded beforehand.

The program opened with the custodian challenge, which took place following Sunday’s eviction.

The housemates that prevailed in the task received a weeklong immunity and the ability to propose candidates for potential eviction.

By means of voting, the heads of the house (HoH) for the week were chosen. Nevertheless, obtaining the title did not confer immunity.

With the changes, though, the couples can now propose one another for eviction, with fans having the final say through voting.

Additionally, the HoH challenge champions are granted automatic immunity.
