The Afrobeats superstar Ahmed Ololade popularly known as Asake has reacted to fans who have criticised him for singing in Yoruba.

One of Asake’s fans asked him why he doesn’t write his songs in English during a Sunday live Instagram session.

Since his music is now being heard by a wider audience, some other admirers have made the argument that he ought to sing more frequently in English.

In response, Asake stated that he feels better at ease creating songs in Yoruba.

The “Terminator” hitmaker further implied that Yoruba music enthusiasts should cease listening if they do not enjoy it.

“The thing is, I am more comfortable singing my songs in Yoruba. Not that I can not still sing it in English. There are some parts in which I use English but I think I am more comfortable with Yoruba,” he said.

In a different story, Asake claimed that his Grammy-winning colleague Wizkid is one of his music inspirations.

He revealed this while he was enjoying working on the recently released third studio album, “Lungu Boy,” with the “Ojuelegba” crooner.

While their joint single, “MMS,” was being released on digital streaming platforms, Asake mentioned that he had been looking forward to working with Wizkid. Asake penned:

“It’s no secret that Wizkid is one of my music inspirations. As a young striving artiste in Lagos, I’ve been waiting for that right song so when the opportunity came it was a no brainer.

“‘MMS’ stands for ‘Mr Money Sound’ and it explains my music journey.”

Last year, the Grammy-nominated singer revealed that he sings in Yoruba because music transcends language barriers.

Asake rose to prominence in 2020 with his hit song ‘Lady’. The singer joined YBNL, the record label owned by Olamide, in February 2022.

He was nominated in the Best African Music Performance’ category at the 2024 Grammys for ‘Amapiano’, his hit song with Olamide, the rapper.
