The legendary Nigerian Afrobeats performer Ahmed Ololade, better known by his stage name Asake, recently shared details of his Grammy experience.

Asake remains upbeat even after losing out to Tyla of South Africa in the Best African Music Performance category at the 66th Grammy Awards.

Tyla’s song “Water” provided fierce competition for Asake’s popular song “Amapiano,” which finally resulted in his Grammy loss.

But he gave his opinion in an open interview with GQ magazine, saying that it’s not a loss for him.

He thinks he has more Grammy nominations coming up and that maybe he will win soon.

He said:

“It [Grammy loss] is not a loss for me. I might just get more next year. In my head, I was not even taking it too seriously”.

On his mind space for his sophomore album, ‘Work Of Art,’ Asake said:

“People don’t really know me because I’m quiet.

So everybody started seeing me as mystery. ‘Work of Art’ is just for them to know me. You have to understand I’m human, but you can’t just deny the heart in me.”

In another story, Asake opens up on why Olamide told me to dump his girlfriend as he hit stardom .

He revealed that when he first made his big paycheck from music, he was so happy that he shared the news with his girlfriend and he gave her full details of how much he made.

Asake claimed to have given his girlfriend N2 million as a gift and to his astonishment she turned it down, saying it was too small compared to the money he made.

He revealed that he was worried over her statement because the lady in question is from a humble background and he never imagined that response.

The singer disclosed that he explained the situation to Olamide who advised him to leave his girlfriend and instructed him to send the money to his mother instead.
