The Grammy-winning singer Tyla from South Africa has responded to rumours that she doesn’t identify as black.

Contrary to rumours circulating on social media, Tyla confirmed in a statement posted on her X page that she has never denied her blackness.

The 22-year-old vocalist highlighted that her heritage is a stunning fusion of Irish, Black/Zulu, Mauritian/Indian, and Coloured lineage.

Tyla clarified that although she was considered a Black lady in other areas of the world, she was considered a Coloured woman in South Africa.

She admitted that different places and civilizations have different ways of classifying people based on their race.

Tyla emphasised that she doesn’t expect to be labelled as “Coloured” by outsiders and that she is aware of the importance and weight of the term outside of South Africa.

She wrote:

“Yoh guys, [I have] never denied my blackness, idk where that came from…

“I’m mixed with black/Zulu, irish, Mauritian/Indian and Coloured.

“In South Africa  I would be classified as a Coloured woman and other places I would be classified as a black woman.

“Race is classified differently in different parts of the world.

“I don’t expect to be identified as Coloured outside of Southa by anyone not comfortable doing so because I understand the weight of that word outside of SA. But to close this conversation, I’m both Coloured in South Africa and a black woman.”

In another story, the south African singer, Tyla clarified that she is not in Illuminati.

Tyla attributed her success to her faith, emphasizing that God is at the core of everything she has achieved.

The singer expressed her frustration with the widespread misconception that joining the Illuminati is the only path to achieving stardom in the music industry. She believes that her accomplishments are a testament to the power of hard work.
