Renowned Nigerian Afrobeats artist Davido has expressed that receiving a nomination for the recently concluded 66th edition of the Grammy Awards is sufficient to bring him a sense of pride in himself.
NewsClick Nigeria has reported that the 2024 Grammy Awards took place at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Sunday.
Davido, a first-time Grammy nominee, did not win any of the three categories he was nominated for, along with other Nigerian nominees who also missed out.
Reflecting on his rise to fame in his recent interview with Rolling Stone, the Grammy nominee mentioned that despite the disappointment, his father reassured him that he is still a legend.
“Being nominated alone is enough to make me proud of myself. I just want my song to be heard on the radio once or twice in the beginning, but for it to transcend to this is just amazing and God’s doing.
“I was on the phone with my dad yesterday and he was like ‘Son no matter what happens, you are still a legend’. So yeah, he is a big fan,” he said.
