The recent Miss Universe Nigeria winner Chidimma Adetshina has shared her thoughts about why she decided to delete her X account as she opened up about her mental health.
The beauty queen revealed the information in an interview with Arise 360, explaining how constant criticism had made the internet feel too big for its comfort.
The 23-year-old Chidimma was previously subjected to severe criticism for her involvement in the Miss South Africa contest. The controversy intensified when her mother was charged of fraud and identity theft by the South African Department of Home Affairs (DHA).
Adetshina was already under internet investigation, and her claim made things worse.
Reflecting on her experience, Chidimma explained that the negative comments on social media took a toll on her well-being.
“I had to delete it because I felt like it was too much for me. I’m a comment reader, so I read each and every comment,” she revealed. “For me, I could spend 80% of my day reading comments, and it became toxic.”
The constant engagement with online criticism led her to make the decision to step back. While she continues to use Instagram, she mentioned limiting her comment section for a time to manage the negativity.
