Nigerian comedian and actor Isaac Olayiwola, better known by his stage name Layi Wasabi, has explained why he opposes the idea of a “girlfriend.”
In a recent appearance on the actress Chinasa Anukam-hosted podcast “Is This Seat Taken?,” Layi clarified that he prefers the term “partnership” to “girlfriend.”
He said,
“I don’t believe in the concept of a girlfriend. I believe in partnership. I don’t believe in that phase of girlfriends. I start with courtship. I have to see the wife in the person from the beginning.”
The host, Chinasa, inferred,
“That speaks a level of focus. That’s fine.”
Wasabi also disclosed that he has only been on dates four times.
The skit maker said his ideal partner is a tall woman, emphasising that height is the first thing he notices in women.
Recall that, Layi Wasabi was honored with the Best Digital Content Creator award at the ongoing 2024 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA).
Layi’s captivating content on Medical Negligence earned him this prestigious accolade.
Taking to the stage, Layi captivated the audience with his trademark humor as he delivered his speech, expressing gratitude for the award.
“Thank you, MultiChoice, for granting me this award among multiple contestants,” he said.
The Best Digital Content category illuminates the thriving realm of online entertainment, highlighting the skills of creators who have enthralled audiences with their engaging, innovative, and imaginative content.
Other nominees in this list include “National Treasure” by Adebola Adeyela (Lizzy Jay); “Hello Neighbour” by Elozonam Ogbolu, Lina Idoko, and Jemima Osunde; and “The Boyfriend” by Maryam Apaokagi-Greene
Apart from creating award-winning digital content and superstar skits, Wasabi has also played supporting roles in well-known productions. These include the Netflix streaming films Adire and Anikulapo: Rise of the Spectre, as well as the Japa movie on Prime Video.
