Veteran record producer ID Cabasa, whose real name is Olumide Ogunade, has openly discussed the ongoing dispute between up-and-coming musicians and industry titans.
His remarks follow a public spat between Burna Boy and Eedris Abdulkareem, which provoked a contentious discussion on social media.
ID Cabasa stressed the importance of mutual respect and understanding between up-and-coming musicians and seasoned performers in a recent episode of the Afrobeats Podcast.
ID Cabasa asserts that while veterans should conduct themselves with honour, younger artists have an obligation to pay tribute to the industry pioneers.
He also underlined the need to honour the original gangsters and the need for veterans to encourage upcoming musicians rather than be unduly judgmental.
He said:
“The new guys need to respect the OGs. The OGs need to be more honourable. You are not competing against these guys. If you see yourself as a competition to these guys, what you’ve done is that you’ve mortgaged your honour.”

In a recent interview, Cabasa revealed to media personality Chude Jideonwo that 9ice was upset with his choice to carry on working with his ex-wife, Toni Seun Payne.
Remember that Payne managed musicians for Cabasa’s Coded Tunes Record, which included rapper 9ice and Olamide?
9ice found Cabasa’s decision to continue working with Payne after their breakup to be unsatisfactory and undesired.
Cabasa had explained his decision to retain Payne on his squad.
According to the music producer, he did it to allow 9ice to maintain regular communication with his ex-wife Payne and their son Zion, whom he might not see again if she had departed for overseas with him.
